Allow me to introduce myself. I am Dr Greg Schreeuwer, an Integrative and Functional chiropractor and a human behaviour expert. In my 20-year career as a chiropractor (read Greg's bio HERE), I’ve often been told or reminded that structure governs function, a common principle in chiropractic philosophy. When your joints are misaligned, nerves can be affected, which impacts other structures. I agree with this; however, I usually take a step back and consider how the body communicates. The sensory nervous system processes about 1 billion bits of information per second. Of all that, we can only consciously process between 10 and 60 bits per second— incredibly slow.
Why is this important? Because our sensory nervous system has been doing this continuously since it first developed, it ultimately influences our actions, how our biochemistry responds to that input, and what it might look like over time. Can this input, combined with our beliefs, intrinsic values, and conditioning, influence how we move our bodies, the paths we choose, how we manage and handle stress, and how that might impact organ systems, detox pathways, and immune and inflammatory responses? Absolutely.
All input entering our sensory nervous system that triggers are active response, such as fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, which doesn’t extinguish properly, can keep our body in a chronic stress state. Chronic stress is a major underlying factor in many of the leading causes of acute and chronic disease and illness faced by humans.
So, how do we address this? Stress is physiological, meaning it exists in the body, is experienced by the body, and manifests physically. Thereare various approaches that can support the body’s ability to resolve unresolved stress patterns. The technique I have been using for 20 years iscalled NET®. NeuroEmotional Technique (NET®) is a mind-body approach that helps identify and resolve unresolved emotional stress patterns affecting physical health and nervous system function.
Our bodies constantly give cues and signals indicating where our perceptions and actions are out of balance. My goal with every patient I work with is to help them understand this perfect language the body uses to communicate, and to learn how to make small, gradual adjustments to behaviour and daily actions to support healing and maximise the benefits of other modalities and approaches. Combining this with biochemical and structural support can significantly improve outcomes. If this is something you see value in exploring, please book a complimentary introduction with me, and I can provide more insight into how my approach could benefit you on your health journey.
